Energy Management
Sustainable Energy Management includes three key components: price optimization, usage optimization and generation optimization. An awareness of the energy balance and prediction of consumption and production require an energy management system and a savings program. Energy management constitutes optimization of all the components to order to achieve the goal of ensuring a continuous supply of energy resources and water in the short and long range, in the quantity, availability and quality required, at an optimal economic and environmental cost, while ensuring the strategic security of the infrastructure.

The Smart Grid -- Is it the next Big Thing? PDF Print E-mail

The Smart Grid – Is it the Next Big Thing?

How many times have you seen and heard something ballyhooed as the “Next Big Thing” for Silicon Valley? We’ve all suffered through the hype and hope cycles, and are jaded veterans able to suss out what is truly visionary from what is merely hallucinatory.

The Smart Grid is the Next Big Thing for high tech businesses, and here’s why. Let’s start with a definition of the Smart Grid (courtesy of the Smart Grid Dictionary): “A bi-directional electric and communication network that improves the reliability, security, and efficiency of the electric system for small to large-scale generation, transmission, distribution, and storage. It includes software and hardware applications for dynamic, integrated, and interoperable optimization of electric system operations, maintenance, and planning; distributed generation interconnection and integration; and feedback and controls at the consumer level.”

The Smart Grid requires new technologies, and new applications of existing technologies to our current electrical grid. Think of it as a supply chain that’s in great need of an overhaul to reduce its costs, improve its efficiencies, and reorient processes and policies – because that’s exactly what it is.

IEA RELEASES "WORLD ENERGY OUTLOOK 2009" PDF Print E-mail
Written by Henry Perez

The International Energy Agency (IEA) released a report titled "World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2009."

According to Nobuo Tanaka, IEA Executive Director, “WEO-2009 provides both a caution and grounds for optimism. Caution, because a continuation of current trends in energy use puts the world on track for a rise in temperature of up to 6°C and poses serious threats to global energy security. Optimism, because there are cost-effective solutions to avoid severe climate change while also enhancing energy security - and these are within reach as the new Outlook shows.”

Among the findings of WEO-2009 are the following:
